DU to hold regular onsite exams from 15 June

The authorities of Dhaka University have decided to take regular onsite examination of Honours and Masters level from 15 June aiming to resolve the session jam.

DU has postponed the tests after the government permitted all public and private universities to take regular onsite or online examinations on condition of vaccinating all examinees under the vaccination campaign, shortly.

The decision was made at a special virtual meeting of the Academic Council at the university's Abdul Matin virtual classroom on Tuesday presided by DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman.

Concerned departments and institutes will inform their respective students about the exam schedule but the residential halls will remain closed, said a press release.

Besides, other semester finals, annual course finals and practical exams will be held on a priority basis from 1 July, as per the DU academic council's previous decision.

Meanwhile, except the hardware and wet laboratory based practical examinations, all tests will be held online if the Covid-19 situation deteriorates.

In addition, at the conference, a loss recovery plan was developed with the goal of resolving the session jam and compensating students for their academic losses.

According to this design, the semester term will be 4 months instead of 6 months with exams in the case of a semester system, and 8 months instead of 12 months in the case of an annual course system.

It was also determined to expand the number of test shifts and have the test results published as soon as possible.

DU Pro-VC (Academic) ASM Maksud Kamal, Pro-VC (Administration) Mohammad Samad and Treasurer Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed were also present on the occasion along with deans of various faculties, departmental chairmen, directors of the institutes and members of the Academic Council.

In the face of the coronavirus outbreak in the country, the education ministry announced closure of all educational institutions and coaching centres on 16 March last year.

All educational institutes have been shut for the last 15 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, inflicting severe harm on the academic life of students although an online curriculum and instruction have continued in a limited manner.
