DU suspends Ali Husen for 6 months over threatening to gang-rape Ducsu female candidate
The suspended student is Ali Husen, from session 2020-21 of the Sociology Department.

The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have suspended a student for 6 months on allegations of issuing threats of gang-rape against a female candidate of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) elections on social media.
The suspended student is Ali Husen, from session 2020-21 of the Sociology Department, says a DU media release signed by Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, director (acting), public relations.
Husen, who is a resident of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Hug Hall, has been suspended from the university for six months based on the recommendations of the proctorial investigation committee formed in connection with the incident, reads the release.
In addition, the allegation brought against Hussain has been sent to the university's committee on sexual harassment.
Kazi Mahfuzul Haque Supan, associate professor of law at Dhaka University, told The Business Standard that this is a "temporary expulsion".
Under this expulsion, the student will not be able to take part in the university's academic activities. In addition, he will not be allowed to stay in the residential halls during these six months, he said.
He said the allegation against Husen has been sent to the university's sexual harassment committee. Based on its investigation, the committee may recommend extending or reducing the punishment period.
"However, it has to be approved by the university's highest policy-making body, the syndicate. In other words, this punishment is not the final one.
Furthermore, since there is an element of 'threat' in this case, the student can also take legal action against him if they wish," he added
Yesterday, DU authorities formed two committees over the incident. One of the committees was formed by the Ducsu Election Commission, while the other was formed by the university's Proctor's Office.
The committee formed by Ducsu Election Commission has been asked to submit the report within three working days, said Prof Golam Rabbani, chief of the Ducsu taskforce on code of conduct.
Besides, the proctorial committee has been instructed to submit the report as soon as possible.
