EC seeks information on polling centre CCTV cameras ahead of election
The commission today (6 November) sent a letter signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md Nasir Uddin Chowdhury to district election officers, directing them to prepare and submit a detailed list of polling centres equipped with CCTV cameras
The Election Commission (EC) is collecting updated information on polling centre CCTV cameras and on buildings requiring repair in preparation for the national election.
Regional election officers have been instructed to send this information to the EC Secretariat within a week, according to a directive issued following recent law-and-order meetings with top officials and inter-ministerial discussions.
The commission today (6 November) sent a letter signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md Nasir Uddin Chowdhury to district election officers, directing them to prepare and submit a detailed list of polling centres equipped with CCTV cameras.
They have been asked to report on the type, functionality, and installation status of CCTV cameras, the letter reads.
The letter also sought information on the renovation or repair of structures used as polling centres, noting that the list of centres was finalised on 20 October.
Among these centres, educational institutions without boundary walls, with doors and windows in disrepair, or requiring minor repairs must be listed and submitted by 12 November.
With the election scheduled for February, the EC is expected to announce the schedule next month.
Around 43,000 polling centres are expected to be set up for this election.
