EC has capacity to hold election, referendum on same day: Commissioner Masud
He noted that holding two major electoral events on separate days would be extremely costly.

The Election Commission (EC) has the capacity to hold the national election and referendum on the same day if the government decides to do so, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said today (9 October).
Speaking to The Business Standard, Masud said, "A referendum is a state decision. If the government decides to hold one, we will do it. The EC has the capability to conduct a referendum alongside the parliamentary election."
He noted that holding two major electoral events on separate days would be extremely costly.
"It will be difficult to conduct such an expensive task twice. If both elections are held together, it will save a lot of public money," he said.
Asked about the commission's preparation for holding referendum, a senior EC official told TBS, "The commission is ready to carry out its duties as per constitutional responsibilities.
"If the commission decides to hold the referendum on election day, we will have to prepare fresh ballots and necessary logistics accordingly."
