Mentioning that the chief adviser has outlined a clear roadmap for election, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today (17 December) said the Election Commission will announce the specific date for polls.
"A very clear roadmap has been given regarding the elections. What could be a clearer roadmap than this? Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus mentioned that the elections could take place between December 2025 or 30 June 2026. The exact date will be determined and announced by the Election Commission," he said while briefing media at Foreign Academy this evening.
After the chief adviser announced the possible timeline, BNP yesterday (16 December) sought a specific roadmap for the next parliamentary election.

Earlier in the day, newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said the commission's preparations are underway to hold the national election within the timeframe set by the chief adviser.
During the evening briefing, Shafiqul Alam stated that those responsible for the massacres during the July movement will not be spared, emphasising the government's commitment to bringing the culprits to justice.
The press secretary also highlighted various steps taken by the interim government to improve the education sector.
He criticised the previous government's regime, pointing out that thousands of crores of taka were spent on unnecessary sectors while the education budget remained stagnant, adversely affecting higher education.
Shafiqul Alam mentioned that initiatives are underway to enhance education quality, including the formation of a commission.
When asked about the creation of an education commission, he responded that while no final decision has been made, the government has already taken several measures.
"Textbooks for Class IX and X will be revised and modernised to meet current needs," he added.
Additionally, he announced plans to exclude grants from the University Grants Commission, replacing it with a streamlined University Commission.
He assured that ICT education would soon reach world-class standards.
