Shibir, Chhatra Dal set to lead contest in absence of BCL
With the banned Awami League's student wing, the Chhatra League – which is also banned from political activities – the upcoming elections are expected to see tough competition between the student wings of opposition parties.
Chhatra Shibir, affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami, and Chhatra Dal, the student front of the BNP, are poised to emerge as the main contenders in the polls.
Bangladesh Democratic Students Council, the student wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP), will also seek to establish its presence on campuses through the upcoming polls.
Meanwhile, left-leaning student groups – including Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Chhatra Federation, and Chhatra Front – are aiming to regain their foothold in student politics via the ballot.
