Ducsu nominates 5 student reps for DU Senate in first executive council meeting

The newly elected members of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union election held their executive council's first meeting this morning (14 September), nominating five elected Ducsu representatives as members of the DU Senate.
After the meeting, they announced that the names of five student representatives have been sent to the Senate. They are Ducsu VP Md Abu Shadik Kayem, GS SM Farhad, AGS Md Mohiuddin Khan, Member Sabikunnahar Tamanna and Transport Secretary Md Asif Abdullah.
Farhad said, "We discussed sending five from among the elected representatives to the Senate. The decision we reached will be published in a circular."
DU Vice-Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan, who serves as the Ducsu president, presided over the meeting, with the newly elected vice-president, general secretary, assistant general secretary and the full executive council members of Ducsu in attendance. The activities of the newly elected Ducsu began formally through this meeting.
They gathered in the meeting room of the vice-chancellor's office, as the Ducsu building is being renovated.
The formal notification of the election of the new Ducsu members came through letters from the university registrar's office yesterday.
Meanwhile, Ducsu GS Forhad informed the members in a letter yesterday about today's first executive council meeting.
In this year's Ducsu election, Islami Chhatra Shibir's panel "Oikyoboddho Shikkharthi Jote" won all three top positions.
Md Abu Shadik Kayem became the Ducsu VP, securing 14,042 votes and defeating Chhatra Dal candidate Md Abidul Islam Khan, who polled 5,708.
SM Farhad won the GS post with 10,794 votes, against the Chhatra Dal's Shaikh Tanvir Baree Hamim, who got 5,283.
Meanwhile, Md Mohiuddin Khan received 11,772 votes, defeating the Chhatra Dal's Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed, who got 5,064.
The polls saw 471 candidates, including 62 women, contesting for 28 posts. Among them, 45 competed for the VP position, 19 for GS and 25 for AGS. Of the women candidates, five vied for VP, one for GS and four for AGS.
A total of 39,775 students were eligible to vote, with 20,873 male and 18,902 female voters. Voting was conducted across eight centres and 810 booths.
The voting took place in a lively atmosphere, witnessing a 78.33% voter turnout.
