No personal victory, ‘July generation’ won Ducsu polls: VP Shadik Kayem
'We pledged that the 40,000 students of DU will be able to share any of their problems with us, and we are ready to address each one,' says Ducsu Vice President Md Abu Shadik Kayem
Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice President Md Abu Shadik Kayem has said there was no personal victory or defeat in the recently concluded Ducsu polls, rather "the July generation" won, and so did the aspirations of the July Uprising martyrs.
While speaking at a press briefing this morning (14 September) after the first meeting of the Ducsu executive committee, through which the activities of the newly elected Ducsu began formally, Shadik said those who have been elected are all representatives of the students.
"The duty of the students is to question us, and our duty is to fulfil the promises we made. We pledged that the 40,000 students of DU will be able to share any of their problems with us, and we are ready to address each one."
He added that the new Ducsu leaders have already sought advice from former leaders. "In the coming days, we will reach out to the students, hear their opinions and take notes."
They will soon present a detailed plan of action, including a full outline of their activities for this month, said Shadik, who won the post of VP from Islami Chhatra Shibir's panel.
Meanwhile, Ducsu General Secretary SM Farhad, also from the Shibir panel, said, "From today, no matter our political leanings, we are all representatives of the students… We have decided to adopt executive plans quickly, specifying what work can be done over the next 12 months and even week by week, so that we can get down to work right away."
Farhad also talked about nominating five student representatives to the DU Senate, adding that the names forwarded are Ducsu VP Md Abu Shadik Kayem, GS SM Farhad, AGS Md Mohiuddin Khan, Member Sabikunnahar Tamanna and Transport Secretary Md Asif Abdullah.
