DSCC carries out special cleanliness and mosquito-control drive

As part of its month-long programme to commemorate the July mass uprising, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) launched a special cleanliness and mosquito control operation today in Wards 71 and 72 (Green Model Town–Manda area) under Zone 7.
The drive, which began at 6:00 am, was inaugurated in the presence of Mr Md Shahjahan Mia, Hon'ble Administrator of DSCC, with Mr Rezaul Maqsud Jahedi, Secretary of Local Government (Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Co-operatives), attending as Chief Guest. Over 600 staff members from DSCC's Waste Management and Health Departments, along with local residents, participated in clearing drains, gullies, and pavements of accumulated waste and applying larvicide to control mosquito breeding.
In addition to the operation, DSCC organised a public rally with participation from local communities, the Red Crescent Society, and BD Clean volunteers. During a briefing for journalists, Mr Rezaul Maqsud Jahedi emphasised that these special operations are already helping to change citizens' attitudes towards urban cleanliness. He added that collaboration between the corporation and local communities is essential for identifying specific needs in each area and developing effective plans tailored to those needs.
Administrator Mr Md Shahjahan Mia stated, "Our primary goal is to empower residents through active civic engagement." He reiterated that citizens play a crucial role in DSCC's dengue control efforts and confirmed that similar targeted cleanliness and mosquito-control drives will continue.
Also present at the event were Mr Md Zahirul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of DSCC; Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, Secretary; all departmental heads; and local dignitaries.
