NCP announces candidates in 125 constituencies; Nahid to contest in Dhaka-11
Member Secretary Akhtar Hossen is currently announcing the candidate list at a press briefing at the party’s temporary office in the capital’s Banglamotor
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a preliminary list of candidates in 125 constituencies for the upcoming 13th national election.
Member Secretary Akhtar Hossen read out the candidate list at a press briefing at the party's temporary office in the capital's Banglamotor this morning (10 December).
NCP Convener Nahid Islam will contest from the Dhaka-11 constituency, while Akhtar from Rangpur-4.
NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary will contest from Dhaka-18. Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam from Panchagarh-1 and Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah from Cumilla-4.
Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara will contest from Dhaka-9, while Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud from Noakhali-6.
Before the list was announced, Nasiruddin told the briefing that they were nominating 125 candidates in the first phase.
"In the second phase, we will nominate those from the BNP who are rebels but are in favour of reforms. We will also nominate the rebels from Jamaat."
He added that the party remains open to individuals who may have been sidelined within their own parties due to financial influence but still enjoy public credibility.
Speaking at the briefing, Nahid Islam said, "We will nominate candidates from minority communities and injured or martyred families in proportion to their representation. We have not left any seat vacant for any special individual. This is an open process, and if allegations of extortion or links to fascism surface against anyone, their nomination will be cancelled. This process will continue until all 300 seats are announced."
He added, "We are not contesting the election to go to power. We will field candidates in 300 constituencies who will work as the force for the 'Yes' side in the referendum. They will approach voters and speak in favour of 'Yes', not ask them to vote for the Shapla Koli symbol."
Before announcing the names, Election Steering Committee Member Secretary Dr Tasnim Jara said, "We sold more than 1,500 nomination forms. After consultations with the aspirants, we have finalised today's list. We do not want godfathers, criminals, extortionists, or corrupt individuals in politics; we want renewal."
From Dhaka, the party's top nominees include: Tasnim Jara (Dhaka-9), Nahid Islam (Dhaka-11), Nahida Sarwar Niva (Dhaka-12), Akram Hossain (Dhaka-13), Ariful Islam Adib (Dhaka-16), Tajnuva Zabin (Dhaka-17), Nasiruddin Patwary (Dhaka-18), and Faysal Mahmud Shanto (Dhaka-19).
