People of Bangladesh want an end to border killings: Adviser Adilur
We must never forget the brutal fate of our sister, Felani, whose body was left tragically hanging from the border's barbed wire, he said
The government wants to put a stop to the ongoing killings along Bangladesh's borders, Local Government Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan said today (16 December).
"The people of Bangladesh want an end to border killings. We must never forget the brutal fate of our sister, Felani, whose body was left tragically hanging from the border's barbed wire. We are officially naming this road 'Felani Avenue' to serve as a constant reminder of this brutality," he said during the nameplate unveiling ceremony of "Felani Avenue" at Gulshan‑2 Circle.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has taken the initiative to name the avenue after Felani.
At the event, Local Government Division Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi said, "The killing of Felani is not just an ordinary murder; it is a clear violation of human rights."
On the other hand, the DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz said, "Naming this road after Felani stands as both a symbol of our dignity as a nation and a protest to uphold our honour."
The road from Gulshan‑2 to Progoti Sarani was named "Felani Avenue" in memory of Felani, who used to work as a domestic help in New Delhi, was shot to death by the BSF members along with Anantapur border point in Kurigram district on January 7 2011, while returning home crossing the barbed-wire fence along with her father.
Public Works Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, Rajuk Chairman Engineer Md Reazul Islam, along with officials of Dhaka North City Corporation, were also present at the event.
A prayer was conducted at the end of the nameplate unveiling ceremony.
