Actor Shams Sumon passes away
He made his big-screen debut in the Liberation War-based film Joyjatra, directed by Toukir Ahmed
Actor and station chief of Radio Bhumi, Shams Ibne Obaid (Shams Sumon), passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital today (17 March), according to media reports.
Originally from Rajshahi, Sumon completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Rajshahi.
Driven by his passion for acting, he later stepped into the world of theatre and quickly gained popularity among audiences for his powerful voice and natural acting style.
After establishing himself on the small screen, Sumon also appeared in films. He made his big-screen debut in the Liberation War-based film Joyjatra, directed by Toukir Ahmed.
He later acted in Bidrohi Padma, directed by Badol Khondkar, released in 2006. In 2008, he delivered a memorable performance in Swapnopuron, directed by Shahidul Islam Khokon, for which he won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Among his notable works are television dramas such as Jonakir Alo, Ayna Kahini, Priya Tumi Sukhi Hou, Chokher Dekha, and Mon Jane Na Moner Thikana.
