A mobile court in Barishal has sentenced two people to one year of imprisonment and fined seven others for supplying and selling fake hand sanitisers and Hexisol.

They operated the trade in counterfeit pharmaceuticals by distorting the product names of reputed drug makers.

Md Ziaur Rahman, executive magistrate of Barishal district administration, operated the mobile court in the city's Girja Moholla and Chawkbazar areas on Monday.

Ziaur Rahman said, "Hearing that fake hand sanitisers and Hexisol were being sold by distorting the product names of reputed pharmaceuticals companies, we conducted a mobile court."

"Seven retailers were fined during the drive. Also, a Dhaka-based trader Mostofa Kamal and Patuakhali-based one Sajal Jamaddar alias Rajib was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for supplying counterfeit products to the retailers. We destroyed all the counterfeit products seized."

It was found during the drive that the products were either bottled as Oriona and AGI by distorting the product names of reputed drug makers Orion and ACI respectively.

Also, Hexisol was being sold as Hexisoli, Hexiol, Hexasol and Savlon as Sablon and Sabron.
