Dirhams, mobile phones, and yarn cartons recovered from passenger at Ctg airport

A team of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) recovered a significant quantity of foreign currency, reportedly stolen mobile phones, and yarn cartons from a passenger at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport today (11 May).
The passenger, identified as Md Sayem Nawaz from Satkania upazila in Chattogram, was intercepted at Gate No-7 of the airport's international departure terminal around 3:00pm. He was scheduled to board Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-616 to Dubai at 3:30pm.
Chattogram airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil said the recovered items included 30,000 UAE dirhams (equivalent to Tk9.9 lakh), 10 reportedly stolen mobile phones of iPhone and Samsung brands valued at Tk12.4 lakh, and two cartons of yarn worth Tk2 lakh.
Authorities said the passenger had hidden the foreign currency and mobile phones inside the yarn cartons in an attempt to smuggle them out of the country. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at Tk23.3 lakh.
The seized items were handed over to airport customs, and legal proceedings are underway. Airport officials confirmed that a money laundering case is being filed against the passenger, who is reportedly a frequent traveler to the Middle East.
