Dhaka North to set up air quality monitoring devices in all wards

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will gradually install air quality monitoring (AQM) equipment in every ward.
DNCC administrator Mohammad Azaz made the announcement in the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop on air quality monitoring at the DNCC auditorium, reads a press release.
Air monitoring devices have already been set up in some key locations of ten zones, the administrator said.
Air quality is being monitored under a research project, he said, adding that this initiative is being carried out with financial support from Vital Strategy and technical assistance from the Nature Conservation Management Organization (NACOM).
As part of the project, sensor-based instruments are measuring airborne pollutants like MP2.5 (fine particulate matter) and nitrogen dioxide.
Currently, air monitoring stations have been set up in Uttara, Mohammadpur, Kachkura, ward councillor offices, community centres, and regional offices.
The administrator emphasised that efforts are underway to make Dhaka a climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable city. DNCC is working with full force to achieve this vision, he said.
During the upcoming monsoon season, DNCC plans to plant between 3,00,000 to 5,00,000 trees.
A green zone will be created in each ward in addition to ongoing efforts for beautification of banks of the lakes and canals, he added.
