Dhaka International Trade Fair now opening on Saturday
The month-long event was scheduled to begin today
The inauguration of the 30th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2026 has been rescheduled following the government's declaration of three days of state mourning for the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Originally slated to begin on 1 January, the opening ceremony of the country's largest trade exposition will now be held on Saturday. The trade fair will be held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) announced the decision in a press release issued yesterday, reports UNB.
The EPB stated that the postponement is a mark of respect toward the late three-time Prime Minister, whose passing has led to a nationwide period of mourning.
EPB Chief Executive Mohammad Hasan Arif said all other preparations for the fair are being finalised to welcome visitors on the revised opening date.
Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus underscored the importance of the DITF in expanding Bangladesh's exports and promoting domestic products.
In a message marking the 30th edition of the fair, he called on participating countries and institutions to work together in a spirit of cooperation and partnership, reports BSS.
"The interim government has remained firmly committed to safeguarding economic stability and fostering the desired growth . . . . This fair is a unique initiative that showcases Bangladesh's immense potential on the global stage," he said in a message on the occasion of the 30th edition of the fair.
Yunus said the DITF plays a vital role in familiarising local entrepreneurs and consumers with global trends in product quality and design, while also promoting diversification and attracting foreign investment.
Expressing hope for the fair's success, he said it is expected to emerge as a vibrant, buyer-friendly and festive event through the meaningful engagement of all stakeholders.
