CU to file case over attacks, cover medical costs of injured students

In response to the recent attacks on students at Chittagong University (CU), the administration has announced nine urgent measures, including filing cases against those involved.
At a press conference held this evening (1 September) at the university senate room, Pro-Vice Chancellor (administration) Professor Dr Kamal Uddin said the decisions were taken at an emergency meeting attended by the vice chancellor, pro-VCs, deans, and syndicate members.
Among the major steps, the administration confirmed it will bear the medical expenses of all injured students and has formed a five-member committee for this purpose.
A case against the attackers will also be filed by today.
To strengthen campus security, the administration will request the government to set up a model police station near the university and establish a police box at the rail crossing.
Additionally, a hotline will be launched for round-the-clock student safety, and security forces have been asked to maintain their presence until the situation stabilises.
Other measures include forming a committee to coordinate with local landlords in Jobra and holding an emergency syndicate meeting tomorrow (2 September) to further review the incident.
"These steps are aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of our students," Prof Kamal Uddin said.
