Ctg police issues warning over fake Facebook account defaming Quran in a bid to incite violence
'Miscreants are using his [a Chakma man's] identity to spread anti-Islam propaganda, clearly intending to create communal unrest,' said police

The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has issued an urgent message warning citizens against being misled by a fake Facebook account spreading defamatory and provocative content about the Holy Quran and Islam.
According to police, a Facebook profile under the name "Susanta Chakma" has been posting offensive remarks and videos targeting Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for the past three days. The posts, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, were found to have been made from a fake account using a Chakma man's name and photo.
The CMP's Counter Terrorism (CT) unit launched an investigation after receiving reports about the posts. The fake account was later deactivated, but another account with the same name and image soon reappeared, continuing the same campaign.
Md Golam Ruhul Kuddus, deputy commissioner of the CMP's CT unit, told The Business Standard that the real Susanta Chakma had no involvement with the posts. "We traced the person whose photo was used and confirmed, after questioning, that he was not linked to the account. Miscreants are using his identity to spread anti-Islam propaganda, clearly intending to create communal unrest," he said.
In an official notice issued yesterday (7 October), CMP said Susanta Chakma, 38, filed a general diary (GD) with Panchlaish Police Station on Sunday (5 October) after discovering the fake profile.
The CMP urged everyone to stay calm and not to take the law into their own hands, stressing that the posts were part of a deliberate attempt to incite communal division.
Police have also sought assistance from Facebook's parent company, Meta, to track down those responsible for operating the fake accounts.
