Jamaat activist killed, 3 others injured in clash with BNP in Chuadanga
The deceased, Hafizur Rahman, was the brother of Banka union Jamaat Ameer Mafizur Rahman.
A Jamaat activist was killed and three others were injured in a clash between activists of Jamaat and BNP in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga yesterday evening (28 February).
The deceased, Hafizur Rahman, was the brother of Banka union Jamaat Ameer Mafizur Rahman. He died last night while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
His body was later brought back to Chuadanga and is currently undergoing a post-mortem examination at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Solaiman Sheikh said police have detained two BNP activists in connection with the death.
No case has been filed yet, and drives are underway to detain other accused. He said the situation is now under control.
The injured are Banka union Jamaat ameer Mafizur Rahman, Khairul Islam, son of Gopal Mondal of the same area, and Atiq, 19.
Publicity and Publication Secretary of Chuadanga district Jamaat, Mafizur Rahman Joarder, said a scuffle broke out between activists of Jamaat and BNP in Jibannagar yesterday evening.
He alleged that several people led by a local Krishak Dal leader attacked them with local weapons, leaving four people seriously injured, including union Jamaat ameer Mafizur Rahman. They were first taken to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex.
As their condition deteriorated, Hafizur and Mafizur were taken to Jashore General Hospital. Later, they were shifted to a hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Hafizur died there while Mafizur is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.
District BNP Organisational Secretary Khalid Mahmud Milton said that, against the backdrop of allegations of a previous attack by Jamaat activists on the house of a Jubo Dal leader, activists of the BNP and its associate organisations launched an attack on Jamaat. During the clash, one person from Jamaat was killed.
