Ctg human chain demands punishment for child abuse, domestic worker rape

Child rights activists, human rights advocates, media workers, students, and citizens formed a human chain in front of the Chattogram Press Club today (23 February), demanding swift justice in all cases of child abuse, particularly the rape of domestic workers.
The participants highlighted the alarming increase in abuse, torture, murder, and human rights violations against child domestic workers, attributing the rise to a culture of impunity.
They called for justice in all cases, including the 2019 case filed against NGO worker Mahabub Alam Prakash Mahabubur Rahman at Chandgaon Police Station.
Speakers emphasised that impunity emboldens perpetrators.
They asserted that exemplary punishment in every case would deter future abuse.
They also urged the government to ensure proper justice in cases reported through the 1098 child helpline.
The human chain, moderated by Mahabubul Alam, featured speeches from Mohammad Ali Sikder from Swapnil Bright Foundation, Shafiul Bashar from Biswas Jubo Unnayan Sangstha, Sirajul Islam from Ghasful, Zeenat Ara Begum from Aparajeyo Bangladesh, Deepika Das Gupta from Jugantor Samaj Unnayan Sangstha, Aftafuzzaman from Bright Bangladesh Forum, Piyush Das Gupta from Usha Nari Unnayan Sangstha, Mohammad Jasim Uddin from IPSA, and Farah Amena Khatun, among others.
