Youth arrested in Teknaf over attempted rape of minor girl
The accused, identified as Md Parvez alias Bakkaiya, is the son of Mohammad Bablu, a resident of the Tabalchhari Mosque Colony adjacent to the Kotowali Police Station area in Rangamati hill district
Police have arrested a 25-year-old youth on charges of attempting to rape a seven-year-old girl in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district.
Confirming the matter this afternoon (22 May), Cox's Bazar district police spokesperson and Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Devdut Majumder said the victim's mother filed a case over the incident yesterday morning.
The arrested suspect was subsequently forwarded to the Cox's Bazar court this morning.
The accused, identified as Md Parvez alias Bakkaiya, is the son of Mohammad Bablu, a resident of the Tabalchhari Mosque Colony adjacent to the Kotowali Police Station area in Rangamati hill district.
Parvez had recently been residing at his maternal grandfather's residence in the Mullapara area under Ward-2 of Whykong union in Teknaf.
The seven-year-old victim is a resident of the same neighbourhood and is currently a class-one student at a local primary school.
According to the case statement, the incident took place on the afternoon of 19 May, when the girl went to fetch water from a tube-well located at a neighbouring house.
On her way back home, Parvez reportedly intercepted the child, grabbed her by the hand, and forcefully dragged her to a secluded spot behind a nearby boundary wall.
Once isolated, the suspect forcibly removed her clothing in an attempt to violate her. When the child began crying and putting up resistance, Parvez issued death threats, warning her of fatal consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
The trauma of the assault came to light the following day due to the mother's close vigilance.
The mother of the victim revealed that on Tuesday night (13 May), the child repeatedly woke up in terror, startled in her sleep.
The next afternoon, while being bathed, the child complained of severe physical pain across her body. Under gentle questioning from her mother, the child eventually disclosed the entire ordeal in detail, prompting the family to immediately pursue legal action against the perpetrator.
According to ASP Devdut Majumder, the victim's mother filed the written complaint, naming Parvez as the sole accused in the case. Following an immediate physical inspection of the crime scene and a preliminary inquiry, the police officially recorded the complaint.
Law enforcement personnel then launched a targeted raid in the Whykong area last afternoon, successfully apprehending Parvez before preparing his judicial transfer to the Cox's Bazar court this morning.
