9-yr-old sexually assaulted in Brahmanbaria, manhunt on to catch suspect
The victim’s family members said the child had been playing near her home at around noon when the accused lured her to an isolated location by offering to buy her chips.
A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila, family said.
While no official case has been filed so far, police confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
The incident took place yesterday (23 May) in Telikanda Uttar Para village. The accused, Sahidul Mia, son of Jamal Uddin of the same village, has been absconding since the incident, according to local sources.
The victim's family members said the child had been playing near her home at around noon when Sahidul lured her to an isolated location by offering to buy her chips.
They alleged that he sexually assaulted her there and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
According to the family, the accused later bathed the girl in a nearby river and left her in front of her house.
The victim later fell ill that night and was admitted to Brahmanbaria General Hospital as her condition kept deteriorating.
Superintendent of Brahmanbaria General Hospital Dr Ratan Kumar Dhali said the victim was undergoing medical examination.
Further details would be available after the medical report is received, he said.
Officer-in-Charge of Sarail Police Station Monzur Kader Bhuiyan said efforts were underway to arrest the accused.
However, no written complaint had yet been filed with the police station by the victim's family, he added.
