Mob-beaten youth accused of child rape dies in Dhaka hospital

A 22-year-old man accused of raping a six-year-old girl in Fatullah, Narayanganj, died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital last night (28 May) after six days in critical condition following a mob beating, police said.
The deceased was identified as Hiru, son of Monir Hossain, of village Char Boyragadi under Baktabali union of the district.
According to the complaint, Hiru allegedly lured the child with the promise of biscuits on the afternoon of 22 May and took her to a nearby jute field in Char Boyragadi, where he raped her with the help of his friend Sohel.
As news of the alleged assault spread through the locality, an angry crowd gathered, dragged Hiru from his residence, and subjected him to a severe beating. His family members took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
The child's mother filed a rape case with the Fatullah model police station the following day, naming Hiru and Sohel as accused. Police arrested Sohel soon after the incident.
Inspector (Investigation) Anwar Hossain of Fatullah model police station said, "Hiru's body will be handed over to his family after the post-mortem."
