Two arrested while 'smuggling' 143 cartons of milk, juice, soft-and-energy drinks, 60kg muri

Teknaf police have arrested two men while they were reportedly attempting to smuggle a huge quantity of soft drinks, energy drinks, milk, juice and muri through.
The suspected smugglers were detained while smuggling the 'stolen goods' across the Naf River border in Teknaf, police said.
Two vehicles used to transport the stolen goods have been seized, Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Gias Uddin disclosed at a press briefing at 5:00pm today (7 March).
The arrestees have been identified as Gias Uddin, 40, son of Nurul Kabir of the Unchiprang area of Hoaikyong union, and Md Hossain, 34, son of Nurul Hossain of the same area.
OC Gias Uddin said, "On Friday morning, police received a tip-off about a large consignment of stolen goods being smuggled through a dirt road adjacent to the Naf River embankment in the Unchiprang area on the east side of Shaheed ATM Zafar Alam Arakan Road."
Based on the tip-off, a Teknaf police team conducted a raid there.
"At one point, when the policemen saw two battery-powered easy bikes coming towards the border, the police members ordered them to stop. Sensing the presence of the police members, the two men stopped the car and tried to escape. The police team chased them and succeeded in apprehending two men. But three motorcycle riders, who were behind the two cars, quickly fled the scene," he added.
After searching the easy bikes, the police recovered 95 cartons of various types of soft and energy drinks, 38 cartons of various types of juices, 10 cartons of liquid milk, and two 30kg sacks of muri.
"The stolen goods were being transported to Myanmar for smuggling," said the Teknaf OC.
"The detainees stated during interrogation that they are active members of an organised smuggling gang. They were collecting the recovered stolen goods from various markets in Ukhiya and Teknaf and smuggling them to Myanmar," he added.
A case has been filed against the duo at the police station under the relevant law.
