A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Sony Rangs Electronics Limited Managing Director Ekram Hussain and two others as an investigation into corruption allegations against them is underway.
Following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order today (16 February).
The two others are Ekram Hossain's brother, Sony Rangs Deputy Managing Director Binas Hussain, and Sachimi Ogawara Hussain.
Riyaz Hossain, bench assistant of the court, confirmed the matter.
ACC Deputy Assistant Director and investigation officer Md Al Amin submitted the petition seeking the travel ban.
In the petition, it was stated that Ekram Hossain and his brother Binas Hossain have been accused of illegally laundering an estimated Tk15,000 crore to Tk20,000 crore.
According to ACC, the accused individuals and their family members own substantial movable and immovable assets both at home and abroad.
It was further stated that they are attempting to transfer these assets to various places. Therefore, imposing a travel ban on them is necessary to prevent the transfer of assets and to preserve evidence related to the alleged offences.
