RAB arrests 8 in Mohammadpur, including member of ‘Kobjikata Group’

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested eight people in Mohammadpur, including member of a criminal unit known as "Kobjikata Group".
Mohammad Babu Khan alias Tunda Babu, member of the group, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Rana alias Rifat, an associate of the group's leader Mohammad Anwar Hossain alias Kobjikata Anwar, along with seven others, have been arrested, according to a media release by the elite force on Monday (24 February).
A team of RAB-2 made the arrests following separate operations in Hemayetpur, Savar, and the Dhaka Udyan area in Mohammadpur on Sunday.
The others arrested are Sakib Mirza, Mohammad Riaz Sardar, Mohammad Shakil, Mohammad Monirul Hasan alias Guti Hasan, Mohammad Suman Haque, and Mohammad Lamim.
Drugs and a large quantity of weapons were recovered from their possession, RAB said.
According to RAB's press release, the operation recovered four Samurai swords, four machetes, two knives, two Chinese axes, two hammers, 450 yaba tablets, Tk6,76,900 in cash, a digital scale for measuring drugs, 13 various-brand Android mobile phones, and four button mobile phones.
RAB said under the direction of Kobjikata Anwar, the arrested individuals were involved in extortion, drug trafficking, land grabbing, theft, robbery, and various criminal activities in Mohammadpur and surrounding areas. They would typically operate in small groups during the day, ambushing pedestrians in less crowded areas to steal cash, mobile phones, laptops, bags, and other valuables.
At night, they would rob homes and cars at gunpoint, taking all valuables from the victims, said the elite force, adding the process for further legal action against the individuals is underway.
