Muradnagar rape: Alleged mastermind behind circulation of video sent to jail, police to seek remand tomorrow

Shah Poran, the alleged mastermind behind circulating the video of the assault of a woman in Baherchar village under Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla, has been sent to jail in connection with a pornography case.
Cumilla Cognisance Court-11 Judge Mominul Haque passed the order today (5 July), confirmed Cumilla Court Police Inspector Md Sadekur Rahman.
According to court sources, Muradnagar Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Ruhul Amin, the investigation officer of the case, is expected to file a remand petition for Shahporan tomorrow (6 July).
Police said Shahporan was arrested by a team from RAB-11 on Thursday afternoon (3 July) from Burichang upazila of Cumilla.
After his arrest, RAB held a press briefing in Dhaka confirming his direct involvement in the crime.
Following the briefing, Shahporan was presented before the Cumilla court, which ordered his transfer to Cumilla Central Jail.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of 26 June when Fojor Ali, 38, allegedly entered the victim's residence and raped her while her family members were away. The woman had been staying at her parents' home with her children for about two weeks.
A group of locals, including the four accused, reportedly recorded the incident. They assaulted the woman and Fojor, who reportedly had a personal conflict with his brother Shah Poran.
The video, which surfaced online two days later, prompted widespread condemnation.
The victim filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, leading to the arrest of Fojor in Dhaka's Sayedabad area on 29 June.
He was later put under police custody at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
The same day, the High Court directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove all footage of the incident circulating online.
It also instructed authorities to ensure security and medical support for the victim and asked for an update on the investigation to be submitted by 14 July.
