Mob beats up 6 fishermen in Naogaon

A mob on Sunday beat up six fishermen over suspicion that they were child kidnappers in Naogaon.
The incident occurred in Mander Tetulia village under Manda upazila of the district. Police later arrived in the area and rescued the fishermen -- Saddam, Aslam, Saiful, Abdul Majid and Anisur.
Locals also detained a man for his alleged involvement in the mob beating and handed him over to the police.
Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Manda police station Officer-in-Charge Mozaffar Hossain said: “A group of 6 fishermen were heading to a market in the area after a night of fishing in Ranjiter Pukur of Buridah Village.
“They were carrying sacks of fish with them. Agitated villagers began chasing them over suspicion that they were child kidnappers. The fishermen received a mob beating. Later, the police rescued them.”
