Mitford murder: Mahin placed on fresh 5-day remand

A Dhaka court today (15 July) placed Mahmudul Hasan Mahin on a fresh five-day remand in a case filed over the brutal killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand alias Md Sohag near the capital's Mitford Hospital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman passed the order as police produced Mahin before the court upon completion of his previous five-day remand and sought a fresh 10-day remand for further interrogation.
Mahin was initially placed on remand for five days on 10 July.
In connection with the same case, a Dhaka court yesterday placed two brothers -- Sajib Bepari and Rajib Bepari -- on five-day remand each.
Earlier, on 13 July, another court had placed Alamgir and Monir on four-day remand each while accused Titon Gazi was placed on a five-day remand on 12 July.
According to the case statement, Sohag, 43, was brutally hacked, beaten, and stoned to death on 9 July near the gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital.
A day after the incident, Sohag's sister Monjuara Begum filed the case.
