Minibus torched in Ashulia
Police say it was attempted arson, not a successful act of setting the entire bus alight
A parked minibus belonging to Grameen Paribahan was subjected to an arson attack in Ashulia early this morning (17 November) around 4:45am in the Beron area of the Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road.
No casualties were reported.
The bus driver, Md Pintu, stated that the 32-seater vehicle was parked by the road overnight after completing its regular passenger service yesterday. The bus helper, who had briefly left the vehicle after washing it to use a restroom, returned to find the bus on fire. Locals rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the flames using water.
Pintu said that all the seats were burned, estimating the damage at approximately Tk2 lakh.
However, Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Hannan provided a slightly different account to The Business Standard, stating it was an attempted arson, not a successful act of setting the entire bus alight.
"There was a patrol team of ours near the spot. When they chased [the assailants], the miscreants fled," OC Hannan said. "Efforts are underway to identify those involved and bring them to justice."
