Parked bus catches fire in Uttara; no casualties
No casualties were reported as the vehicle was empty at the time of the incident.
A bus caught fire while parked in the House Building area of the capital's Uttara this morning (30 January).
No casualties were reported as the vehicle was empty at the time of the incident.
The fire broke out around 9:30am on a bus operated by Bhuiyan Paribahan.
According to Morshed Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station, the bus was parked at the time, but the engine had been left running.
"The driver and his helper left the engine running while they went to a nearby stall for tea," the OC said.
He said that a mechanical fault is believed to have triggered the fire while driver and helper were away.
Upon receiving the news, two units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot.
Khaleda Yasmin, a duty officer at the FSCD, confirmed that their teams managed to bring the flames under control.
"Our units reached the scene immediately after being alerted. The fire was completely extinguished by 10:12am," she said.
