An individual has been arrested in a case filed over the theft of a pair of shoes belonging to a judge from the Dhaka Special Judge Court-10's Jame Mosque after Zuhr prayers yesterday (13 March).
The arrestee has been identified as Md Sumon.
"A pair of black leather shoes worth Tk1,850, belonging to Md Rezaul Karim of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10, was stolen from the mosque. However, with the assistance of worshippers, the shoes were recovered, and the suspect was apprehended," Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yasin Shikdar told The Business Standard today (14 March).
"Following the incident, Rasel Mia, a stenographer of the court, filed a case. Later, police presented Sumon before the court," the OC added.
According to the case document, yesterday, after Zuhr prayers on the court mosque's third floor, Rezaul discovered that his pair of black leather shoes was missing from the designated area.
Shortly after, a fellow worshipper noticed Sumon carrying two pairs of shoes in a plastic bag and brought him back to the third floor for questioning. Upon confrontation, the judge identified his stolen shoes.
The police were immediately informed, and upon arrival, they seized the stolen shoes and prepared a list of confiscated stolen shoes. The shoes were later handed over to the court's bench assistant, Mohammad Robiul Alam, OC Yasin said.
