Hadi shooting: Suspect placed on 3-day remand for aiding prime accused's escape

A Dhaka court today (17 December) placed Md Nuruzzaman Noman alias Ujjal, on a three-day remand in connection with the attempted murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and an aspiring independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency.
Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order this evening after hearing a remand plea submitted by police, court sources said.
Ujjal was arrested yesterday, police said.
The investigating officer, Faisal Ahmed, an inspector of the Detective Branch's Motijheel Zonal Team, produced the accused before the court and sought a five-day remand.
According to the remand plea, Nuruzzaman allegedly assisted the prime accused, Faisal Karim Masud, in fleeing after the gun attack on Hadi. Police said he provided a rented car to facilitate the escape and gave instructions to the vehicle's driver at different times.
Mentioning sufficient evidence being found linking the accused to the involvement in the case, it further stated that for the sake of proper investigation, identifying the planners and other involved persons, recovering the weapon used in the murder attempt, and ensuring justice, it is necessary to bring the accused into police custody and interrogate in detail.
After the hearing, the court granted a three-day remand.
On 12 December, Sharif Osman Hadi, was shot in the head by unknown assailants on motorcycles in the capital's Paltan area. He immediately collapsed after suffering a severe bullet injury in his brain.
Initially he was rused to DMCH where doctors performed a surgery and then shifted him to Evercare Hospital.
Later, Hadi was transferred to Singapore via air ambulance where he is receiving advanced treatment.
A case was filed at Paltan Police Station over the attempted killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, two days after his shooting.
