Fugitive murder suspect captured after escaping police custody at Ctg court

The Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram District Police today (30 April) captured one of the accused who had escaped from police custody at the Chattogram court premises yesterday.
The accused Iqbal Hossain, son of Md Yunus and Habiba Akter, hailing from Uttar Kolauzan, Sikdar Para, Ward No 3 under Lohagara Police Station, Chattogram, was earlier arrested on 14 January.
He was the prime accused in Lohagara Police Station Case No 15, filed under Sections 302/34 of The Penal Code, 1860, for murder.
However, another fugitive Anwar Hossain, son of Kamal Uddin from Haji Malek Driver Bari in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, an accused of a narcotics case has remained at large until filing the report at 5pm.
Mohammad Russel, additional superintendent of police (DB and Industrial), said, "Iqbal was presented before the court yesterday for a hearing. However, while being transferred from the Chattogram District Court lockup to the district jail, he managed to escape."
The officer further said a team was formed to track down the suspect. "Relying on intelligence sources, the team launched coordinated operations across various areas within Chattogram district and Chattogram Metropolitan Police jurisdictions."
"In the early hours of Wednesday, detectives raided a residential colony near the railway line in Ward No 8 under the Khulshi Police Station area. There, they arrested Iqbal from a rented house belonging to one Firoza Begum," he added.
Law enforcement confirmed that legal proceedings against the suspect are currently underway.
