Woman jailed for filing false case against freedom fighter’s family in Ctg
The convict, identified as Bibi Mariam Begum, is a resident of the North Kattali area under the Akbar Shah Police Station
A Chattogram court has sentenced a woman to one month of simple imprisonment and fined her Tk5,000 for harassing a freedom fighter's family by filing a false General Diary (GD) with the police.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud delivered the verdict today (7 May), stipulating that in default of payment, she will have to serve an additional seven days in jail.
The convict, identified as Bibi Mariam Begum, is a resident of the North Kattali area under the Akbar Shah Police Station.
According to court sources, on 24 September 2022, Bibi Mariam filed a GD with the police station against Moktar Hossain, son of Freedom Fighter Zakir Hossain, of physically assaulting her two sons, Faisal Uddin and Fahad Uddin, and threatening their family.
Following a court order, police investigated the allegations and later submitted a report stating that the claims were false and ill-motivated.
According to case documents, there has been a long-standing dispute over land owned by Freedom Fighter Zakir Hossain in the North Kattali area. The High Court had previously upheld a verdict in favour of Zakir Hossain, granting him permission to proceed with construction on the land.
On the night of 23 September 2022, a clash broke out over the delivery of construction materials to the site.
Moktar Hossain was injured in the incident and received treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Court records stated that the GD was filed the following day as a counter-allegation.
Administrative officer of the court Md Gias Uddin Chowdhury said the court took cognisance under Section 211 of the Penal Code after the police's final report found that the allegations were fabricated. The verdict was delivered after recording the testimonies of five witnesses.
