Father sentenced to life imprisonment for raping daughter in Keraniganj

A Dhaka court has sentenced Md Rubel to life imprisonment for raping his daughter seven years ago in the Keraniganj Model Police Station area.
The verdict was delivered today (1 September) by Judge Md Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4. Rubel was also fined Tk100,000 and will face an additional one-year jail term upon failure to pay the fine.
Md Ershad Alam, the public prosecutor, said "The state is satisfied with the life sentence and hopes the verdict will serve as an example in society."

The tribunal directed the sale of Rubel's movable and immovable property, with the proceeds to be given to the victim through the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner.
According to the case statement, in 2018, the victim was sleeping when Rubel raped her at around 3:30am in a rented house in the Keraniganj Model Police Station area.
For almost two years prior, Rubel had repeatedly taken the victim to his house under various pretexts and raped her on multiple occasions. The assaults resulted in the victim becoming pregnant.
The victim's grandmother filed a case on 21 October 2018. After investigation, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Keraniganj Model Police Station S M Mehedi Hasan submitted a charge sheet on 31 January 2019. During the trial, nine witnesses testified.
Rubel was brought to the court from prison for the verdict announcement today and was sent back with a warrant immediately after the sentence was delivered.
