Gang rape of 2 girls in Keraniganj: 6 get imprisonment until death
A Dhaka tribunal on Tuesday (4 August) sentenced six men to imprisonment until death for the 2022 gang rape of two young girls in South Keraniganj, also imposing Tk1 lakh fines on each convict.
A tribunal in Dhaka on Tuesday (4 August) sentenced six people to imprisonment until death in a case filed over the gang rape of two young girls in South Keraniganj in 2022.
Judge of the Dhaka Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Court-4 Munshi Md Mashier Rahman handed down the judgment.
The court also fined them Tk one lakh each.
The convicts are—Rahul, Md Daimon, Afsar Uddin Anim, Pervez Haque Palash, Minhaz alias Minhaz Abedin and Minhaz alias Babu alias Minhaz Babu.
The court issued arrest warrant against Rahul as he remained absconding since the trial proceedings.
The tribunal also asked the Dhaka District Magistrate or collector to provide the fine money to the family members of the victims after selling the property of the convicts.
According to the prosecution, the two young girls along with some of their friends went to Pankouri restaurant in Keraniganj on June 25, 2022 for celebrating the birthday of one their friends.
After celebrating birthday, they were waiting for auto-rickshaw in Shubaddya area to reach their respective destinations.
At one stage, the convicts riding on an auto-rickshaw intercepted them and took them to the fish farm of one Ratan.
They also looted money and mobile phone sets from the two girls and their friends and then violated the girl in turns.
They also took video footage of the rape.
Later, the friends of the two girls went to South Keraniganj Police Station and informed them who rescued the two girls.
On June 29, 2022, a case was filed with South Keraniganj Police Station. Police submitted chargesheet against the six people.
