Ex-NBR official Matiur, wife sent to jail after remand in graft case
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order today (16 September) following a one-day remand, Aminul Islam, assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) Prosecution Division, told The Business Standard.

A Dhaka court has sent former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman and his first wife, former Raipura Upazila Parishad chairperson Laila Kaniz, to jail after their remand in a case filed for concealing information and acquiring assets illegally.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order today (16 September) following a one-day remand, Aminul Islam, assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) Prosecution Division, told The Business Standard.
The investigating officer, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Sabikun Nahar, presented the duo before the court and requested that they be detained in jail.
Earlier, on 14 September, the court had approved a one-day remand for the accused.
The case was filed on 6 January against Matiur's daughter Farzana Rahman for allegedly concealing information on Tk2.45 crore and illegal acquisition of assets exceeding Tk53.41 crore. Motiur Rahman was made a co-accused in the case.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Matiur and his wife Laila Kaniz in the city's Bashundhara area on 14 January this year. They have since been in custody, with remand orders issued in multiple cases.
Matiur became a subject of controversy last year due to an expensive sacrificial goat booked by his son.
