Death of Mimo: DU teacher sent to jail after remand

A Dhaka court has sent Dhaka University teacher Sudip Chakraborty to jail after completion of a three-day remand in a case filed over the death of student Munira Mahjabin Mimo.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasib Ullah Piyas passed the order today (6 May), Sub-inspector Kamal Hossain of the prosecution division confirmed.

Earlier, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Kazi Iqbal Hossain of Badda Police Station, produced the accused before the court after a three-day remand and moved a petition to keep him in custody.
The defence lawyer Madhusudan Deb filed a bail petition, which was opposed by the state. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and ordered the accused to be sent to prison.
On 26 April, police recovered the body of Mimo from her residence in North Badda.
According to police, a note recovered from the scene mentioned the accused by name and referred to money and personal items.
A case was later filed accusing Sudip of abetting suicide. He was subsequently arrested.
The court had earlier denied his bail and later placed him on a three-day remand on 3 May.
