Ducsu VP candidate Jalal lands in jail in attempted murder case
Jalal was expelled from the dormitory. DU authorities handed over him to the police at the night and filed an attempted murder case at Shahbagh police station

A Dhaka court has sent Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) vice president candidate Jalal Ahmed to jail in a case filed over the attempted murder of his roommate at a Dhaka University (DU) dormitory.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhajur Rahman passed the order today (27 August) after the Investigating Officer of the case, Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Asadul Islam produced Jalal before the court with a plea to keep him in lockup for fair investigation.
Lawyers of the accused filed an application seeking bail for Jalal, which was opposed by the state lawyers. After the hearing, the court rejected the bail plea and sent Jalal to jail.
Jalal Ahmed, who is also known as "Jalamoyee Jalal", is a student of the 2013-2014 session at DU and a resident of the university's Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall.
At midnight, he attacked his dormitory roommate, Md Robiul Haque following an altercation over a trivial matter.
Following the incident, DU authorities expelled Jalal from the dormitory and handed him over to the police.
Later today, the university authorities filed an attempted murder case against Jalal with Shahbagh Police Station, said the station's OC Khalid Monsur.
Police said during the initial investigation, Jalal confessed to his role in the incident.
According to the case document, around 12:30am, Jalal disturbed his roommate Rabiul by dragging chairs and turning on lights. When Rabiul requested him to lower the noise, Jalal became agitated and attacked him with a wooden chair, injuring his forehead.
He then struck Rabiul with an old fluorescent tube, which broke and caused further injuries to his chest and hand.
Fellow students rescued the injured and admitted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
"Mob framed me, I am innocent"
Meanwhile, Jalal Ahmed has claimed that he was falsely implicated through a mob attack instigated by student groups.
"I am a valid student of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall. Former goons of Chhatra League and Shibir created a mob to frame me," Jalal told reporters while being taken to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka today.
"I was working to evict illegal students from the hall. They tried to kill me," he said before being taken to the courtroom.
Seeking permission to speak, Jalal told the court, "My roommate has already finished his studies, but did not vacate the hall. I was preparing to file a writ in the High Court to evict illegal occupants. That is why I was attacked. They wanted to kill me."
Addressing his roommate, Robiul, Jalal said, "They say I stabbed him with a knife. Let him be medically examined to see whether I stabbed him or he got hurt while attacking me. The medical test will reveal the truth. He injured himself trying to attack me. Please grant me bail under any condition."
Around 3:47pm, police took him back to the court lockup, where he continued to repeat his claims of innocence.
