Brahmanbaria municipality councillor suspended for OMS card fraud
The deputy commissioner's office has already received the suspension order through an e-mail and sent it to councilor Maqbool Hossain

Brahmanbaria municipality councillor Md Maqbool Hossain has been suspended temporarily for misappropriation in a list of the government's special open market sale (OMS) programme for the poor.
Md Faruk Hossain, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Co-operatives issued a suspension order on Sunday.
The Brahmanbaria deputy commissioner's office has already received the suspension order through an e-mail and sent it to councilor Maqbool Hossain, said Deputy Commissioner Hayat ud-Dowla Khan.
According to the order, there was an allegation against 10 no. ward councilor Maqbool Hossain that he misused his power and hampered the government's poor friendly programme by enlisting the names of well-off people in the list of OMS cards.
During enquiry, the authorities found proof against him of enlisting the names of 15 family members and relatives of Shah Alam, OMS dealer in municipality's Kautali area and district Awami League's industries and commerce affairs secretary in the list, it added.
Amid the huge criticism, the district OMS committee earlier cancelled Shah Alam's dealership and axed the names of Shah Alam's family members and relatives from the list of OMS cards.
