Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has apprehended three Rohingya individuals with 40,000 pieces of yaba during an anti-smuggling drive at the Ghumdhum border region in Naikhongchhari Upazila of Bandarban.
The operation took place in the early hours of today (12 September) at the Mondolpara border in Ghumdhum Union, said Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of BGB-34 Battalion.
The apprehended individuals were identified as Md Hasan, 25, son of late Hafez Ahmed from block 9D of Rohingya Camp-19 in Ukhiya Upazila; Enam Karim, 25, son of Abdur Rahim from block C-8 of the same camp; and Md Ayaz, 21, son of Md Hasan from block A-9.
Lt Col Khairul Alam detailed that a BGB team launched the operation after receiving information about a yaba shipment being smuggled from Myanmar through the Mondolpara border.
BGB members spotted three suspicious individuals crossing the zero line from the Myanmar side with bags in hand and ordered them to stop. The individuals dropped their bags and attempted to flee but were apprehended after a chase.
"Upon searching the spot, the abandoned bag was recovered, and 40,000 yaba pills were found inside," he said.
A case has been filed against the apprehended individuals at Naikhongchhari Police Station, the BGB official added.
