2 held with weapons at Moulvibazar Tower in Old Dhaka
The incident occurred last night, when Jamaat's Dhaka-7 constituency candidate Hazi Enayet Ullah was holding a meeting with Moulvibazar market traders inside the building.
Police have detained two people with locally made weapons from Moulvibazar Tower in the Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka during an election-related meeting at the market.
The incident occurred around 10:30pm last night (22 January), when Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka-7 constituency candidate Hazi Enayet Ullah was holding a views-exchange meeting with Moulvibazar market traders inside the building.
According to police and local sources, three individuals were initially caught inside the market with locally made weapons by party activists. One of them managed to flee, while the other two were later taken into custody by police and brought to Chawkbazar Police Station.
The identities of the detainees could not be confirmed immediately.
Md Mahfuzur Rahman, assistant commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Chawkbazar zone), told reporters, "We have detained two individuals and brought them to the police station. They are being questioned. We are trying to determine who they are, why they went to the market and what their intention was."
Police said further details would be available after the interrogation is completed.
