The Special Branch (SB) of police detained two individuals, including BNP's Barishal metropolitan unit member secretary Md Ziauddin Shikder, for reportedly entering the Supreme Court premises with licensed weapons.
They were taken in custody on separate occasions today (3 August).
The other detainee was Molla Mosleh Elahi, 57, a businessman based in Dhaka.
He was released around 10am after giving a written statement to the DMP's Supreme Court unit.
Meanwhile, Ziauddin Shikder, who was detained in the afternoon, was handed over to Shahbagh Police Station following interrogation, according to the Supreme Court administration.
Police said Shikder had come to Dhaka to attend Chhatra Dal rally and was visiting a bench officer of the court. Elahi had arrived at the court to follow up on a relative's bail issue.
Police said both individuals admitted they were unaware that carrying firearms, regardless of license status, was prohibited within the Supreme Court premises.
