Licensed arms holders asked to deposit firearms by 31 Jan
The move is part of government measures to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful 13th national parliament election and referendum
The Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Dhaka has directed all licensed firearms holders to submit their weapons and ammunition to the nearest police station by 31 January 2026, officials said.
The move is part of government measures to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful 13th national parliament election and referendum.
According to the order, all licensed weapons must be deposited with the nearest police station or authorised legal dealer by 2:00 pm on 31 January 2026. The firearms will remain with the concerned police stations until 5:00 pm on 15 February 2026.
The order also prohibits carrying or displaying any licensed firearms until 15 February. Violators may face action under the relevant sections of the Crimes Act, 1878.
However, the directive does not apply to law enforcement personnel, security guards in government or private offices, financial institutions, or parliamentary election candidates and their authorised arms retainers.
Authorities have urged all licensed arms holders to comply strictly to ensure election-time security.
