17-year-old girl found dead in Shyampur; husband absconding
Police have recovered the throat-slit body of a 17-year-old girl from a tin-shed residence in the capital's Shyampur Mirhajirbag area.
She was found around 4:30pm yesterday (3 March) at a house on Pipe Road, confirmed Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Shahadat Hossain of Shyampur Police Station.
The deceased was the daughter of Md Harun, hailing from Ratanpur village in Bhola Sadar upazila.
SI Shahadat said police recovered her body after being informed by locals in the afternoon.
No one else was present in the house at the time.
Her husband, identified as Sojib, is currently absconding, the SI said.
The body has been sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College for autopsy.
Police said the girl had been living in the rented house with her husband for about one and a half months.
According to neighbours, the couple had an argument the night before. From Tuesday morning until noon, there was no sound from inside the house, and the door was found locked from the outside.
Neighbours said they later looked through a gap in the door and saw her lying on the floor and then informed police.
SI Shahadat Hossain said police suspect the husband may have been involved in the killing at some point during the night and fled.
Police are conducting drives to arrest him.
