1,650 arrests a day: Nearly 2 lakh people held by police in 118 days
A massive amount of weapons and drugs were also seized in nearly four months.
Police arrested nearly 2,00,000 people across the country in special drives and other cases between 1 May and 26 August, averaging around 1,650 arrests a day, according to Police Headquarters.
Over the aforementioned 118 days, police arrested 53,518 people in special operations and another 1,41,628 in other cases and drives, bringing the total number of arrests to 1,95,146, said a press release from Police Headquarters today (27 August).
During the period, police also recovered 438 firearms, 4,722 rounds of bullets and cartridges, 165 magazines, 65 crude bombs, more than 2.25kg of gunpowder, 893 locally made weapons, 71 weapon parts, and 21 pieces of equipment used to make weapons and bombs. Police also seized 10,300 firecrackers locally known as "chocolate bombs".

The recovered firearms included 153 pistols, 48 shooter guns, 45 LGs, 26 revolvers, 108 guns, 26 pipe guns, seven shotguns, seven rifles, three SMGs, 12 air guns, and one pen gun, according to the release.
Police also seized large quantities of drugs during the operations, including 1,40,54,559 yaba pills, 10,732 packets of heroin, 30,427 bottles of phensedyl, 13,865 bottles of foreign liquor, 560 bottles of locally made liquor, and 12,053 packets of cannabis.
Police Headquarters said 23,221 cases were filed over the seizures of these drugs, leading to the arrest of 34,043 people.
