12 fishermen detained with illegal boats, nets in Patuakhali

In a joint operation, 12 fishermen were detained yesterday (14 September) afternoon in Mahipur coastal area in Patuakhali's Kalapara Upazila with illegal artisanal trawling boats and behundi nets.
"On a tip-off, the Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries conducted the drive jointly and detained 12 fishermen from Kuakata estuary along the Bay of Bengal," said a press release today (15 September) signed by Coast Guard media officer, Lieutenant Commander Siam Ul Haque.
During the drive, two artisanal boats and 10 behundi nets worth around Tk50 lakh were seized, it added.
