3 injured, child held at gunpoint in armed robbery at Malaysia-based expat’s Patuakhali home
A gang of armed robbers loots cash and valuables, shoots the homeowner's son, and holds a child hostage during a late-night raid in Kalapara.
Three members of a family, including a young man who sustained a gunshot wound, were injured during an armed robbery at a Malaysia-based expatriate's home in West Badurtali village under Tiakhali union of Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali early yesterday (14 August).
According to the victims, a group of five to six masked men cut the window grill on the southern side of the house to gain entry while several others kept watch outside.
Once inside, the intruders held the family at gunpoint and tied their hands and feet before ransacking the rooms.

During the attack, the robbers allegedly attempted to assault the expatriate's daughter-in-law, prompting her husband, Naim, 22, to intervene.
The attackers then shot Naim in the leg above the knee.
The robbers also held a pistol to the head of a two-year-old toddler, Tasrif, threatening to kill him before reportedly escaping with approximately 25 bhori of gold ornaments, Tk2 lakh in cash, and an iPhone.
Locals rushed to the scene after the perpetrators fled and took the injured to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex.
Attending doctors later transferred them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal due to their critical condition. The injured are Naim, his wife Rezbi, 18, and the expatriate's wife, Ruma Begum, 40.
Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam said police inspected the crime scene immediately after receiving the information.
Law enforcement agencies are working to identify the suspects, recover the looted valuables, and apprehend those involved, he added.
Superintendent of Police Abu Yusuf said police collected evidence from the spot and that drives are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
