Travel ban imposed on ex-MP Ranga, ex-Sylhet mayor Anwaruzzaman
Same court imposes travel ban on former Cumilla-4 lawmaker Md Abul Kalam Azad
A Dhaka court today imposed travel bans on former mayor of Sylhet Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, and former lawmaker from Rangpur-1 constituency Mashiur Rahman Ranga, his son Rafat Rahman, daughter Maliha Tasnim Jui and daughter-in-law Shakila Khanom Kakon over graft allegations, in separate graft cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders, granting ACC pleas to prevent the accused from leaving the country while investigations are underway.
The anti-graft body in its plea said Ranga, also the former state minister for LGRD and his family members committed crimes under the ACC Act, including amassing illegal wealth and money laundering, reports BSS.
"The ACC is probing the allegations. It has been learned that the former lawmaker and his family members have illegal properties in different parts of the country, including Rangpur and Dhaka. They are trying to hand over or transfer the properties to others' names as they may try to escape the country. So a travel ban should be imposed on them immediately," the ACC plea added.
For Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury's case, the ACC, in its plea, said it has received allegations against Chowdhury for concealing wealth information in his election affidavit, as well as involvement in tender manipulation and extortion.
"He may try to flee the country to evade justice and a travel ban should be imposed on him immediately," the plea added.
Meanwhile, the same court today imposed a travel ban on former Cumilla-4 lawmaker Md Abul Kalam Azad, his wife, Sadia Saba, former joint secretary of the law ministry Bikash Kumar Saha and his wife Lipika Bhadra. The court came up with the orders, allowing separate pleas of the ACC.
